PICCO Engineering had the privilege of being involved with this high-profile award-winning project. Our stone engineering expertise was crucial to ensuring the White Brazilian Granite was engineered and anchored to the concrete structure effectively and precisely. We were also tasked with assisting in the stone selection and oversaw the material testing program.

The stone selected for the two buildings, reflecting pools, pavers, planters and benches were:
 

• Dalma Cream Croatian Limestone (honed)–Ismaili Centre

• Margherita White Brazilian Granite (sand-blasted)–Aga Khan Museum

• Absolute Black Chinese Granite (polished)–reflecting pools

• Beige White Fleck Chinese Granite (sand-blasted)–pavers, planters, benches

The angled granite facade demanded precise connection engineering and anchor design. As Daniel Teramura, a partner at Moriyama & Teshima, stated, looking back at a visit by the Aga Khan to study samples of limestone in the daylight, “I don’t remember another client who has taken that kind of interest in the details”. PICCO’s attention to detail was critical in this project.
